Sense-ational Language Activities

This post is going to be short and sweet! After spending hours getting lost on Pinterest and filling my head with 8.5 million awesome ideas that I would LOVE to try in therapy, but never get around to (that darn paperwork) I finally did get around to one that I've been meaning to do for almost two years now! I FINALLY MADE SENSORY BINS! I am probably way to excited about this, but its been on that "to do" list in the back of my mind for so long, it feels good to finally have it on my "done, now lets play" list! I filled my buckets with: uncooked noodles, uncooked rice, "pom poms", white sparkly rocks (ohh), and rocks. I purchased all of my "fill" at The Dollar Tree (can't beat the price). Here are some other ideas for "fill": sand, dirt, water, coffee beans, beans, marbles, kinetic sand, cotton balls, corn, hay, cereal, shaving cream, uncooked oatmeal, and uncooked grits.  I have to admit, one reason that I didn't do my sensory bins sooner is because I was worried about the possibility of choking with some of my students, so please make sure that you keep this in mind while filling your sensory bins and pulling them out for students to use! Here are some pictures of my sensory bins. I "themed" my bins: "dinosaurs", "sea shells" (we're reading There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed a Shell this week), "transportation", "blocks", "animals", and "blocks/measuring". You could put anything in these bins, and I will be switching out the "objects" frequently! For my younger artic kids, I will be hiding articulation picture cards and for some of my older kids (if I can get them to bite on this activity) I will be having the kids write their own target words, then hide them in their sensory box and race their fellow group members to see who can find all their words first!

If you make your own sensory bins, please comment below with what you are putting in them! Have a fantastic day!
