Speechasuaurus Meets Speecharoo!

Once I found out who created this app, Speecharoo, I knew I was going to love it! It's like we are a match made in cyber-speech-space! The app I am reviewing today is called Funny Directions by Speecharoo.  Let me give you the quick break down, then I will tell you how my students responded to this fun and engaging app! Since after reading this I'm sure you will want a copy of the app for yourself, Speecharoo generously shared an app code for me to giveaway! Enter the raffle-copter at the bottom of this page for your chance to win!

The app targets following directions. You can target one, two, or three step directions. There are four different scenes including a scene for home, school, the park, and the beach. A calm voice reads a direction aloud as the direction is posted at the top of the screen.  In the settings you can take away either the written direction to work specifically on listening skills, or you can take away the oral reading of the direction to work on reading skills. There is a data keeper at the top of the screen that tracks how many directions were followed accurately on the first attempt. Here is a screen shot of each of main page and each of the four scenes.

The graphics are adorable, but I think the best part of the app is the immediate reinforcement students get when they complete the direction. Something "funny" happens every time! The spider sings, a frog jumps out of a backpack, the seashell goes flying off the umbrella-and the list goes on! This is the part that my students LOVED! As a matter of fact, they like it so much, they ask to play that funny "game" on the Ipad! I love it when my students call speech apps "games"!
